It is a white crystal . Easily soluble in acetone, soluble in carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and diethyl ether. Insoluble in fatty hydrocarbon and aromatic hydrocarbon. Strong hygroscopic. There are three hydroxymethyls on ¦Á position of TMP molecule as it is a neo-amyl ternary alcohol. It has excellent properties of improving solidity, sealing and corrosion-resistibility of resins, and good stability to water and heat decomposition and oxidation.Three hydroxyls have good properties of equivalent reactivity etc.Boiling point 295 ¡ãC , Relative density 1.1758(20¡æ)
Applications: It is mainly used to producing Alkyd resin and Polyurethane. It is also a raw material of synthetic lubricating oil, plasticizer, surfactants, explosives and other fine chemicals.
